A new Emerson College Polling/WTNH/WCTX/The Hill survey of Connecticut’s 5th Congressional District finds 49% of voters support incumbent Democratic Representative Jahana Hayes, while 45% support Republican George Logan. Six percent are undecided.

Since earlier this month, Hayes’ support has held at 49% while Logan’s support decreased a point. Both polls are within their respective margin of error.

“With one week until Election Day, independent voters in the district are now evenly split with 46% supporting Hayes and 46% backing Logan,” Spencer Kimball, executive director of Emerson College Polling, said. “In early October, Logan led among independent voters, 49% to 45%.”

On the presidential ballot, 48% support Kamala Harris and 48% support Donald Trump, while 2% support a third-party candidate and 2% are undecided.

The most important issue for voters in the 5th congressional district is the economy, at 44%, followed by housing affordability at 19%, threats to democracy at 8%, immigration at 7%, and crime at 6%.

Methodology

The Emerson College Polling/WTNH/WCTX/The Hill Connecticut 5th district survey was conducted October 24-26, 2024. The sample of Connecituct’s 5th district likely voters is n=620, with a credibility interval, similar to a poll’s margin of error (MOE), of +/- 3.9 percentage points.

The data sets were weighted by gender, education, race, age, and party affiliation based on 2024 likely voter modeling. Turnout modeling per state is based on U.S. Census parameters, exit polling, and voter registration data.

It is important to remember that subsets based on demographics, such as gender, age, education, and race/ethnicity, carry with them higher credibility intervals, as the sample size is reduced. Survey results should be understood within the poll’s range of scores, and with a confidence interval of 95% a poll will fall outside the range of scores 1 in 20 times.

Data was collected by contacting cell phones via MMS-to-web text (phone list provided by Aristotle) and an online panel of voters provided by CINT. The survey was offered in English.
