A new Emerson College Polling/KDVR/KWGN/The Hill survey of Colorado’s 8th Congressional District finds 44% support incumbent Democratic Congresswoman Yadira Caraveo while 44% support Republican Gabe Evans. Twelve percent are undecided.
“Republicans break for Evans, 86% to 10%, Democrats support Caraveo 87% to 4%, while independents are more split, breaking in the favor of Evans, 43% to 35%,” Spencer Kimball, executive director of Emerson College Polling, said. “Hispanics break for Caraveo, 42% to 33%, while white voters are split: 47% support Evans and 46% Caraveo.”
Forty-three percent have a favorable view of Rep. Caraveo, while 40% have an unfavorable view of her. Seventeen percent have never heard of the congresswoman. Forty-nine percent have a favorable view of Gabe Evans, while 33% have an unfavorable view of him. Eighteen percent have never heard of Evans.
The economy is the top issue for 28% of voters in the 8th district, followed by housing affordability (21%), immigration (21%), threats to democracy (9%), crime (7%), and abortion access (3%).
Voters were asked how confident they are that Colorado’s elections are safe and secure. Sixty-eight percent are somewhat or very confident that the state’s elections are safe and secure, while 22% are not too confident, and 10% are not at all confident that the state’s elections are safe and secure.
Methodology
The Emerson College Polling/KDVR/KWGN/The Hill survey was conducted September 29-October 1, 2024. The sample of Colorado 8th district likely voters is n=525. The polls have a credibility interval, similar to a poll’s margin of error (MOE), of +/- 4.2 percentage points. The data sets were weighted by gender, education, race, age, and party affiliation based on 2024 likely voter modeling. Turnout modeling per state is based on U.S. Census parameters, exit polling, and voter registration data.
It is important to remember that subsets based on demographics, such as gender, age, education, and race/ethnicity, carry with them higher credibility intervals, as the sample size is reduced. Survey results should be understood within the poll’s range of scores, and with a confidence interval of 95% a poll will fall outside the range of scores 1 in 20 times.
Data was collected by contacting cell phones via MMS-to-web text (phone list provided by Aristotle) and an online panel of voters provided by CINT. The survey was offered in English.
